The Better Business Bureau is looking for Southern Arizona firms it can honor in its fifth annual Business Ethics Awards.

Nominations are open to businesses and industries of any size. The awards will be handed out in ceremonies May 2.

Tom Collier, president of the local Better Business Bureau, offers these guidelines when considering a firm for nomination. If “yes” can be answered to the following questions, then the business stands a good chance it should be nominated:

Is the business committed to maintaining an environment that consistently sets high standards of behavior toward its customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and communities?

Does the business adhere to the highest standards for truthful advertising and sales practices?

Has the business earned a reputation for noteworthy contributions to its industry and/or the communities in which it does business?

Once nominated, a business then must submit an application addressing in detail how it meets each of seven criteria required to win the award.

Nominations are open to any business in the Southern Arizona counties of Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee or in the state of Sonora, Mexico. Membership in the Better Business Bureau is not a requirement.

Nomination forms are available online at www.tucson.bbb.org or a nomination letter can be mailed to the Better Business Bureau, 434 S. Williams Blvd., Suite 102, Tucson 85711. Nominations are being accepted through March 9.

" It would be a financial catastrophe for Walmart to open another store that will be too close to the Magee/Oracle branch. They would be competing against each other for market share. Their failure could be devastating to the Oro Valley economy and future. Oro Valley will be known for its unstable consumers that can't even keep a Walmart alive. If this occurs, no retail business will want to come here to do business.

There are several other stores, restaurants and fun centers that are not available in Tucson. If I need to go to a Walmart, I can always go to the one in Magee and Oracle. How about an IKEA, a Corvette Diner (like in San Diego), a new bowling center so our teenagers stay in the area, a family fun center. Other clothing stores that are just too far away are Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, another BEBE can't be too close, 3-story Forever 21 (like in San Francisco), Michaels, etc.

Who should I talk to if I am interested in opening a restaurant?
