of new realignment plan
TMC Healthcare issued layoff notices to about 150 employees Thursday (April 26). Frank Alvarez, president and CEO of the healthcare provider headquartered at Tucson Medical Center, said the employee cutbacks are part of a realignment plan to decrease costs, improve operational performance and increase patient care capacity.
“Our costs have outpaced growth in our revenues and so an immediate correction is necessary to keep the organization moving forward,” he said.
TMC Healthcare said it had absorbed nearly 500 positions eight months ago when it closed El Dorado as an acute care hospital. Officials said TMC Healthcare reported a loss for the first quarter of this year. They didn’t specify a dollar amount.
The employee layoffs impact non-clinical departments. Those being released can receive a severance package.
