Providence Service Corp. acquires Canadian firm

International Consultants Ltd., a workforce training company in Victoria, British Columbia, has been purchased by Providence Service Corp. for $9.8 million.

The acquisition allows Providence, 5524 E. Fourth St., to expand its share of the estimated $1 billion (Canadian) being spent in that country on welfare-to-work training programs.

Providence said it expects the acquisition to add about $25 million revenue next year. Providence provides home- and community-based social services to government sponsored clients in programs including child welfare, juvenile justice, Medicaid and corrections. The company says it has 905 government contracts in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
