operations from Cemex

CRH plc, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, acquired two aggregate quarries and four ready mix concrete plants that had operated under the names of Cemex and Rinker.

The Tucson-area acquisitions were part of 39 facilities in Arizona and Florida that were sold to meet U.S. Department of Justice regulatory approval for Cemex’s acquisition of Rinker this year. The value of the entire transaction, which closed Dec. 3, was $250 million.

Regional facilities included in the sale are:

ân¶ Rinker ready mix concrete and aggre gate quarry at 5400 W. Massingale Road, Marana.

ân¶ Cemex ready mix concrete and aggre gate quarry at 18701 S. Old Nogales High way, Sahuarita.

ân¶ Rinker ready mix at 6500 S. Old Spanish Trail and 1011 W. Valencia Road.

A ready mix plant in Flagstaff was also included in the sale. All of the remaining properties are in Florida.

The Justice Department required the divestiture of Cemex as a condition of its acquisition of Rinker because, it concluded, the merger would result in increased prices for ready mix concrete sold to customers in the affected areas due to little other competition.
