Holiday performances

atTucson Int’l Airport



Once again holiday travelers going through Tucson International Airport will be treated to musical performances from local schools.

Performances scheduled include:

ân¶ Tortolita Middle School Campañas de Tortolita Handbell Ensemble, from noon to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 12).

ân¶ Cholla High Singers, 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 15.

ân¶ Thornydale Elementary holiday singers, 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17.

ân¶ Amphitheater Middle School advanced band and orchestra, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 19.

ân¶ Pistor Middle School chorus and band, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 19.

ân¶ Tucson High School alesstto and troubadours choirs, 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 19.



 

 

TRANSPORTATION



Ryan Airfield master plan

gets public review Thursday



A public information workshop will be held Thursday (Dec. 13) to review the master plan for Ryan Airfield.

Dennis Cady, director of planning for the Tucson Airport Authority, said the master plan is updated about every seven years and is used as the blueprint for future. It includes operational forecasts for the general aviation facility, along with land-use planning and infrastructure needs for the next 20 years.

The open house will be 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Ryan Airfield Administration Building, 9698 W. Ajo Way.



 



MINING



Asarco settles with EPA

over cobalt at Silver Bell



Asarco says it has agreed to settle a dispute with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for failing to report its use of cobalt at its Silver Bell Mine in Marana from 2001 to 2003.

Asarco said it will pay $28,950.

The mining company said it discovered in 2005 it had made a calculation error while preparing its annual report on toxic releases and voluntarily notified the EPA. There were no releases into the environment.

Kyl elected to GOP’s

No. 2 job in the Senat



U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., was elected by his colleagues as assistant Senate minority leader − the Republicans’ No. 2 post in the Senate.

He succeeds U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., who announced he is retiring from the Senate at the end of this month.

 

 



ASSOCIATIONS



NAWBO holiday auction,

lunch fundraiser Tuesday



The Greater Tucson Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners will hold its annual holiday auction and luncheon Tuesday (Dec. 11) at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites, 5151 E. Grant Road.

Some of the money raised at the event will go toward a $2,000 scholarship to Pima Community College for a woman aspires to be an entrepreneur.

Auction items already submitted include a weekend at Mayan Palace resort in Mexico, glass from Philabaum Studios and tickets to UA Presents. The group is still looking for more auction items. To contribute, call the same number as for reservations.
