All Starbucks to close
- but just three hours

Published on Friday, February 15, 2008

If you’re a Starbucks regular who is used to getting a caffeine pick-me-up on the way home from work, be forewarned: All 7,100 company-owned Starbucks stores will close at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 26 to conduct a nationwide education event "designed to energize" and "transform the customer experience."

Stores normally open at night, will reopen Feb. 26 at 8:30 p.m.

This event is separate from Starbucks announcement it will close 100 underperforming locations this year. The company has not announced what stores it is permanently closing.

Facing slower growth and increased competition, Starbucks has announced it is refocusing on its coffee and discontinuing products that detract from that. By the end of the year it will stop serving hot breakfast sandwiches. Although the sandwiches increased revenue by an average of $35,000 per store, customers said the smell detracted from the coffee.
