Asarco to consolidate
HQ at Williams Centre

Published on Friday, February 22, 2008

Asarco will consolidate its headquarters into one location, 5285 E. Williams Circle in Williams Centre, in April.

The copper mining company said it would move about 130 salaried employees to the new location from three other offices; its current headquarters at 1150 N. Seventh Ave., another office at 55 E. Helen St., and an office in Phoenix, which houses the commercial, legal, human resources and environmental departments.

Joseph F. Lapinsky, president and CEO, said the consolidation will increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Asarco has been under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since Aug. 17, 2005. Earlier this month, the company said it wanted to sell assets as part of a plan to emerge from bankruptcy. The company has until April 11 to file its bankruptcy exit plan.

In Southern Arizona, Asarco operates the Silver Bell Mine near Marana, the Mission Mine near Sahuarita, the Ray Mine near Kearney and a smelter near Hayden.
