Awards, honors, and recognitions

Poto Chongo became registered as a professional civil engineer in the State of Arizona. Chongo is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with ATL, Inc. and has been with the firm for 6 years.

Carrie Allen, a principal at Allen & Young Business Brokerage, was awarded the 2007 Business Broker of the Year by the Arizona Business Brokers Association. Honored for her contribution of excellence to the field of business brokering and the local chapter, Allen was also given special recognition plaques from Governor Janet Napolitano and Mayor Bob Walkup.

The following individual members of the Tucson Utility Constructors Association were honored and congratulated by Chief Miranda, Tucson Police Department, for their part in building the Tucson Police Memorial Plaza: Matthew D. Clark, Daniel J. Keeley, Thomas C. Lodge and Don Surina. Organization members to the association were honored as well. The memorial is located downtown at the main police headquarter on Stone Avenue.

Duke Pollock, vice president of sales and marketing for Bedmart, was honored for his work and the commitment of all Bedmart employees to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Bedmart is an Arizona company with 27 locations throughout the State. The company was started in Tucson in 1988.

CB Richard Ellis awarded its top performers and Rookie of the Year for 2007. The top performers are: Michael K. Chapman, Robert L. Davis, William L. DiVito, Jerry A. Hawkins and W. Michael Sandahl. Jesse Peron was named the rookie of the year.

Elections

Bank of Tucson elected Deron Davenport and Larry A. Cesare as the newest members of its Advisory Board. The Advisory Board is comprised of emerging Tucson leaders who represent the new generation of bank customers. Davenport partners with his father, David, in Davenport Dental. Cesare is the owner and general manager of the Viscount Suites Hotel since 1986. Cesare is the director of the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson, a member of the Southern Arizona Minute Men Committee of Arizona, the Fiesta Bowl Committee, the University of Arizona’s Athletic Rebounders Club and the Tucson Conquistadores.

University of Arizona geosciences professor Susan L. Beck has been named chairwoman of the board of directors of the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology, the principal organization that gathers and distributes earthquake and related data.

New Hires

Dawna Wood is the new director of meeting and event sales for A6, a meeting and event management company. She joins A6 with more than 12 years of national experience in the corporate and association planning industry. Previously Wood worked as director of sales for PSAV at the Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa.

Simpleview hired several new members to its team including Michael Perry and Elizabeth Fernstrom to the client care division; and Leo Medovyy to the production division. Perry is a developer for simpleview’s client care division. Perry previously worked for one of the oldest Information Technology (IT) outsourcing companies and served on the project team for their largest client, General Motors. Fernstrom is a new project manager in the client care division. She has much experience with many corporate brands in various industry sectors including: the film industry where her clients included the United States Postal Service, Environmental Protection Agency and Tide. Born in Moscow, Russia, Medovyy has lived in the United States since he was thirteen; which is also the age he says he, "started messing with websites." Medovyy has five years of professional experience in web development at only the age of twenty-three.

Appointments

Richard C. Katz has been named Of Counsel by Snell & Wilmer L.L.P. Katz represents U.S. and foreign importers and exporters in matters involving U.S. government trade regulation, including the structuring of overseas sales transactions, customs duties and compliance, export licensing, penalties and audits.

New Starts

Eric Fletcher and Bradley Swenson have created Square e11evn Design Studio, a new architecture and design firm that caters to upscale residential and commercial clients. Fletcher and Swenson aspire to transform the urban fabric of Tucson with cleverly crafted habitats that are aesthetically eye-popping and environmentally sustainable. Both have practiced architecture for the past ten years on a wide variety of projects.
