Hose maker Durodyne shutting Tucson plant

Published on Friday, April 04, 2008

Durodyne Inc., maker of specialty hoses for the military and industry, will close its 85,000-square-foot plant at 850 E. Teton Road by the end of November and move its manufacturing facilities to Connecticut to be closer to other facilities owned by its parent company, Eaton Corp.

"All the rest of the operations are east of the Mississippi so this will save the company lots of money for things like the shipping of raw materials," said Joe Mika, managing director of Durodyne.

He said the 45 Tucson employees are being offered either "handsome" severance packages depending on how long they’ve worked for the company or the opportunity to move to other opportunities within Eaton.

Durodyne was established in 1975. In 1999 it was sold Argo-Tech, which was acquired by Eaton in March 2007 for $695 million. Eaton’s corporate headquarters are in Cleveland.
