Economic issues on an international scale are continuing to extract a toll on pilot training schools. International Airline Training Academy, headquartered at Ryan Airfield, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
And a hangar at Tucson International Airport used by Silver State Helicopters has been emptied as part of its Chapter 7 liquidation.

Officials with the Tucson Airport Authority, which operates both airports, said the International Airline Training Academy is continuing to operate but with fewer students.
Its financial troubles stem from it not receiving timely payments from Chinese airlines to train pilots. As a result the company was having to front expenses in the face of rising costs. The school, which moved to Ryan Airfield from Glendale in 2003, filed for bankruptcy protection on March 27.
Silver State’s hangar at Tucson International has been emptied and "turned back over to the airport," said Dick Gruentzel, vice president of administration and finance for the airport authority.
