IBM buys deduplication
storage software firm

Published on Monday, April 28, 2008

IBM’s System Storage division has acquired privately held storage software provider Diligent Technologies, whose deduplication software can store data using less physical space while still maintaining integrity. It also saves money.

As companies increase the amount of data being stored, deduplication reduces redundancies.

Cindy Grossman, vice president of IBM Systems Storage in Tucson, said the company intends to develop IBM-branded solutions based on enhanced versions of Diligent’s technology beginning later this year.

Diligent Technologies was a privately held company headquartered in Framingham, Mass., with research and development facilities in Tel Aviv, Israel. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
