SelectBuild’s Tucson residential framing and concrete operations, at 4742 S. Irving Ave., will be shut down as of July 18, parent company Building Materials Holding Corp. announced May 14. The plant has about 180 employees, all of whom have been notified.
The company blamed the shutdown on weakness in the local housing market.

"Tucson has been hit particularly hard by the downturn in the housing market, and we have to realign our operations accordingly," said a statement by Stanley M. Wilson, president and chief operating officer of Building Materials Holding Corp., which is headquartered in San Francisco.
The Tucson operation was founded in 1979 as BBP Concrete and became part of SelectBuild in 2005. The company won the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association’s award as supplier of the year in 2006.
SelectBuild says it provides services to 19 of the nation’s top 25 home builders and will continue Arizona operations in Gilbert and Glendale.
