Continental dropping
Tucson-Newark flights

Published on Friday, June 13, 2008

As of Sept. 3, there will be no non-stop flights from Tucson to the New York area. Continental Airlines announced June 12 it will eliminate its flights to Newark as part of its previously announced system-wide plans to cut back flights this fall.

Continental will continue to operate flights between Tucson and its hub at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport.

As part of its announcement, Continental is eliminating all service to 15 cities. The airline said it is also reducing its workforce by 3,000 employees.

Tucson lost its only other nonstop flights to the New York area May 12 when JetBlue, which flew to Kennedy International Airport, withdrew from the market.
