Saffron Indian Bistro is hoping to open about June 4 at 7607 N. Oracle Road at the south end of the shopping center that also houses a Sprouts Farmers Market and a Kohl’s store.

It has the same ownership as Kababeque Indian Grill, 845 E. University Blvd. in Main Gate Square, but Saffron is described as being more upscale. It will serve both lunch and dinner.

Philanthropy with phlavor

Pastiche Modern Eatery is bringing back its "Philanthropy with Phlavor" promotion in June. The restaurant will donate 5 percent of your bill to your choice of 40 local charities. It works on your dining-in tab, order takeout, shop in the wine store or buy a gift certificate.

According to Pastiche’s owners, Pat and Julie Connors, more than $80,000 has gone to local charities over the past eight years.

On May 4, the Tucson Pima Arts Council awarded Pastiche a 2008 Lumie Award for outstanding support of the arts. The restaurant received the award in the small business partner category.

Dinner and a movie

With the cost of gas these days, the Flying V Bar & Grill at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort has put together a Friday date night package of dinner and a movie within walking distance of each other.

Start out with a couples’ light fare dinner at the Flying V, which includes one rack of baby back ribs to share, an order of guacamole made tableside and a dessert to share. The cost is $38 plus tax and tip.

Then, at 8 p.m., they’ll screen a classic or cult-classic film in the upper terrace where couples can snuggle on a blanket or sit on chaise lounges under the trees and stars while munching on complimentary popcorn.

Film titles include "Casablanca," "Some Like It Hot," "Sleepless in Seattle" and "The American President." Find out what the movie is when you make reservations.
