A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for today (June 30) at the U.S. State Department’s newest passport printing and mailing center, 7333 E. Rosewood St.
Among those to be on hand are Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Janice L. Jacobs, Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup, Tucson City Councilman Rodney Glassman, and Phil Nolan, chairman, president and CEO of Stanley Inc., the company that operates the plant under contract to the government.

When operating at full capacity, the center will print and mail over 10 million passports annually. Beginning in October, the center is also planning to produce between 800,000 and 2 million Border Crossing Cards annually. The cards can be used as visa documents issued to Mexican citizens who live near the U.S. border.
The Tucson passport processing center is one of two high-speed centers developed by Stanley to meet the increased demand for U.S. passports.
