Splendido, the Oro Valley residential community at 13500 N. Rancho Vistoso Blvd. that opened in 2006 for those 55 and older, has just added Sonora, a health center.
Sonora provides 60 private apartments and suites for residents needing assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, short-term stays and hospice care.

The health center, which is on the grounds of Splendido, features three distinct neighborhoods — Coronado for assisting living, Madera for memory support and Sabino for skilled nursing and rehabilitation.
Each neighborhood, designed by Interior Design Associates of Nashville, Tenn., has a living room, activity area and restaurant-style dining room or bistro. In 2007, the National Association of Home Builders lauded Splendido for "Best Continuing Care Retirement Community Interior Design."
"Our objective is to establish the highest level of care for residents, which we call ‘The Sonora Standard’," said Mark Blazer, executive director of Splendido.
"We have developed a health center that provides comprehensive and responsive services and is staffed by employees trained with award-winning, nationally recognized programs from the Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging." The programs include innovative techniques to stimulate the minds of residents, including the use of the Nintendo Wii, an interactive game device.
Sonora is just two miles from Northwest Medical Center. The Sonora staff includes a registered nurse on call 24 hours a day. Nursing staff members are permanently assigned to residents. Blazer said residents living in one of Sonora’s neighborhoods are able to remain as self-sufficient as possible in comfortable surroundings.
The health facility offers meals prepared by executive and pastry chefs who make sure fresh, low-fat and heart-healthy foods are available at every meal.
