The rise in the number of single women buying homes has forced changes in the housing market. Construction companies are starting to add amenities that are attractive to single women.
Larger closets, bigger kitchens and energy-efficient appliances are just some of the features that are being included to appeal to women.
"Many of my female clients have asked for homes with amenities that guys never ask about," said real estate agent Jerome Niwinski. "Lighted driveways, yard maintenance and marble countertops. What guy ever specifically asks for marble countertops?"

The saying, "location, location, location" also coincides with what women want.
"Women are very concerned with the area they live in," said Niwinski. "There is no specific area of Tucson that women specifically flock to, but the type of areas are fairly consistent. Single women look for areas that have low crime rates and a sense of community, above all else."
He added that proximity to family and friends is important to single women, too.
"When I was looking for a place to live, I wanted to live near my parents," said Jessica Shettleroe, who bought her home in 2003. "I also made sure I was near a good school for my kids."
