Emmanuel Apostol, a pediatric nephrologist, is now associate professor, clinical pediatrics, and chief of the Section of Pediatric Nephrology at The University of Arizona Department of Pediatrics. He also joins University Physicians Healthcare, the medical practice of the physicians of The University of Arizona College of Medicine. Apostol previously practiced as a pediatric nephrologist at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Ind., and was an assistant professor at Indiana University School of Medicine.
Hanna Phan joined The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science.

Awards, honors, and recognitions
Two lawyers from Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart P.C. were recognized as the 2009 Best Lawyers in America along with 89 of their colleagues throughout the country. Tibor Nagy was named to the list for the 10th year and Jim Mackie was named to the list for the first year. The Tucson firm also was ranked the top firm in labor and employment in the city.
Wanda Ronquillo, a manager at IBM, won the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers’ Junipero Serra award. The award goes to those who have demonstrated over a period of years a pioneering spirit and tireless enthusiasm. It lauds innovative accomplishments, leading to the advancement of engineering and science.
Carie Baumann, owner of local interior redesign, home staging, and educational firm Redesigning Interiors was honored with a first-place award for “Best Staging” at the annual educational conference of The Society of Decorating Professionals. Baumann’s first-place award for “Best Staging” was within the Trainer’s category, and was selected winner among over 500 photographed entries. This is the second year in a row Baumann received a first-place award for her work.
Joanne Kanute, a hairstylist at Absolute Attitude Salon, became a certified Master Image Consultant.
The Stantastic Toastmasters Club is pleased to announce that two of its members have achieved Competent Communicator status: Dave Hill and James Patrick. Both are officers of the club and performed the 10 speech projects outlined in the Toastmasters International Competent Communication manual. Hill is a manager in Stantec’s survey department. Patrick is a marketing coordinator for Stantec.
Commerce Bank of Arizona’s Humberto Stevens received 2008 Community Service Award from the League of United Latin American Citizens, Council 1057. Stevens has more than 18 years of experience in the banking field and has been with Commerce Bank of Arizona since 2007.
Promotions
KVOA-TV named Jeff Green the general sales manager. Green has served as the station’s local sales manager since December 2005. Green joined KVOA in 1999 as an account executive.
LP&G Inc. promoted two of its employees: Krysta Jordan and Tim McCraley. Jordan is now the interactive project manager. She has been at LP&G since 2005. McCraley is the interactive design director. He has been with LP&G since 2004.
Appointments
The Metropolitan Pima Alliance named Michael S. Guymon as executive director. He joined MPA earlier in 2008 as a public policy liaison. Guymon brings more than 12 years of political consultation and strategy development to MPA. Previously, he was Tucson Council Member Fred Ronstadt’s chief-of-staff and as assistant vice president of governmental affairs for the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
