Sun Country Airlines
files Ch. 11 bankruptcy

Published on Friday, October 10, 2008

Sun Country Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Oct. 6 after running into a cash squeeze when fraud charges were brought against the founder of its parent company, Thomas Petters.

The airline hasn’t been implicated in the scheme but Petters had agreed to loan the airline money over the next two months. Petters was arrested Oct. 3 by federal officials on charges of mail and wire fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

The airline offered seasonal service last winter between Tucson and Minneapolis and is scheduled to resume that service from Dec. 17 to April 15. The airline issued a news release saying it intends to maintain its flight schedule.
