UA to participate in
national children’s study

The University of Arizona’s Department of Pediatrics is one of 36 study centers selected to participate in a national children’s study to investigate the interaction of genes and the environment on health.

The National Institutes of Health’s six-year $44 million study will follow a representative sample of 100,000 children from before they were born to age 21. The UA will focus on children children in Pinal and Apache counties.

The study will investigate factors influencing the development of conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, birth defects, diabetes, asthma and obesity.
