New Hires

Barca Financial Group hired Peter Hillier to join its financial planning team. He will be working with military retirees and Tucson’s East side of town including Vail, Wilcox, Benson  and Sierra Vista.

Journal Broadcast Group named Dewayne Jones the director of sales.  With more than 20 years of radio and television sales experience, Jones is a highly respected sales executive with extensive knowledge of the radio and television businesses. He joins the Tucson Operations from Augusta, Ga., where he served as general sales manager at WAGT-TV Inc.

David Buechel joined Northwest Allied Physicians. Buechel has been practicing medicine in Tucson for 28 years and has a wide breadth and depth of experience managing difficult and complex medical cases.

Randy Cassen is the newest member of The Solar Store staff. He is responsible for product sales in the southeast area of the state. He has more than thirteen years experience in software sales, retail sales, customer service and retail management, he brings expertise in revenue growth, client development, and relationship building.

Appointments

Pascua Yaqui Gaming Enterprises and Wendell Long have agreed on a new two-year contract for Long to continue to serve as chief executive officer. Long has been the CEO of Pascua Yaqui Gaming Enterprises since March 2006 and oversees Casino of the Sun, Casino Del Sol and AVA Amphitheater.

Victoria Locatelli has been appointed as designated broker for RealEstate.com’s statewide operations. Locatelli, licensed since 1992, has had her broker’s license for six years. During that time she owned her own company for three years and then became the designated broker for Windermere Distinctive Homes and Land in Oro Valley.

Tomás León has become a partner in the Certified Baseball Academy, joining Ricky Scruggs as a business partner in the company. León, who continues to serve as Vice President of Community Philanthropy for the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, will help expand marketing efforts, develop partnerships and establish the academy as a community resource training center.

Promotions

Ann McGrath has been named vice president - strategic planning and operational improvement at University Medical Center.  McGrath has worked at UMC for almost six years, focusing on strategic planning, expansion of UMC facilities and patient satisfaction.

Awards, honors, and recognitions

Emily Nottingham received the Partner in Housing Award from Governor Janet Napolitano in recognition of a 30-year career devoted to creating a greater Tucson and Arizona through housing and community development.

The Arizona Theatre Company presented John Hudak with his Georgy award. Hudak was chairman of the campaign to prevent a 1990 plan to overhaul the downtown theater, located at 330 S. Scott Ave., and turn it into lawyers’ offices. Instead, the committee spearheaded a restoration of the 1927 building. Upon reopening, the company made its home at the temple. The non-profit organization manages the structure for the City of Tucson. The Georgy Award is presented annually to recognize the significant impact that certain individuals or organizations have had on the Arizona Theatre Company and on the arts in Arizona.

Three attorneys from Rusing & Lopez have been included in the Best Lawyers in America 2009 edition. Oscar S. Lizardi was selected for his specialty in corporate law. Cynthia T. Kuhn for her specialty in mass tort litigation and Catherine M. Woods for her specialties in medical malpractice and professional malpractice law.

Out of more than 400 women entrepreneurs who went through an arduous application process, M.J. Essenmacher of Creative Catering Corporation was chosen as one of 20 finalists for the Make Mine a Million $ Business Program from Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence. Their goal is to inspire one million women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses to annual revenues of one million dollars by 2010.  

University of Arizona pediatric pulmonologist Wayne Morgan, Professor, and researcher at the UA Steele Children’s Research Center and the Arizona Respiratory Center, was honored at the inaugural ‘Live 4 Cure Breath of Life Gala’ hosted by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Morgan has been providing services in Southern Arizona for cystic fibrosis patients, as well as others, for more than 26 years.

Elections

Richard Prevallet, director of facilities and plant services at Tucson Medical Center, 5301 E. Grant Road, has been elected to serve on the board of directors for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association. Prevallet will represent Region 9, which encompasses Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah.
