New Hires

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona hired four new staff members. Kristine Welter is the foundation’s communications officer. She joins the Community Foundation from University Physicians Healthcare and has seven years of marketing, web and communications experience in non-profits. Andrea Thonvold and Katherine Westlund have been hired as community philanthropy associates.  They are responsible for donor development and grant making. Thonvold previously worked for Teen Challenge of Arizona Springboard Home for Youth in Crisis. Westlund was formerly with Cal/West Educators Placement where. Peggy Terry is the new office manager. She is a certified professional in Human Resources with more than 10 years of experience in senior level HR roles, most recently as director of Human Resources at Universal Avionics Systems Corporation.

University Physicians Healthcare and The University of Arizona Department of Pediatrics hired the following new faculty members: Jasmine Ahmed, assistant professor, clinical pediatrics. Ahmed joined the Section of Neonatology. Andrew Cronyn, assistant professor, clinical pediatrics.  Cronyn joined the Section of General Pediatrics and will care for children at the Arizona Elks Clinic for Children and Young Adults at UMC.  Maria E. Piña, clinical assistant professor; Hengameh Rastegar-Murphy, assistant professor and Jasna Seserinac, assistant professor, clinical pediatrics;  all joined the Section of Hospital Medicine and Outreach.

EcoPlan Associates, Inc. hired archaeologists Allen Dart and Anna Neuzil as principal investigators for cultural resources projects, and Angela Barclay as senior environmental scientist for projects dealing with the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act.

Appointments

Khalid Khan, a renowned gastroenterologist specializing in intestinal transplantation, has been appointed associate professor of surgery and pediatrics at The University of Arizona Department of Surgery, and director of the Pediatric Liver and Intestinal Transplantation Program. Khan comes to the UA from the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the pediatric GI (gastro-intestinal) section, specializing in the pre- and post-management of children with end-stage liver and intestinal disease.  He also joins the UMC abdominal transplant team.

Promotions

The YWCA promoted three of its staff members. Andrea Marafino is now the director of economic advancement for women. She was previously the program specialist. Nancy Granados is now the operation specialist. She was formerly the front desk receptionist. Liz Rabago is not the director of operations. She was formerly the office manager.

LP&G, Inc., promoted two of its employees. Stacey Auch is the new associate public relations director. Auch has been with LP&G for four years and was previously account manager for land development and gaming clients. Cindy Jordan-Nowe is now the lead strategist, responsible for creating marketing strategies and directing their implementation. She has been with LP&G for three and a half years and previously serviced accounts for technology and healthcare clients.

Bill Pinnow was promoted to vice president of Meridian Surveying and Development.  Pinnow is a Registered Professional Engineer and manages the civil engineering and surveying departments for Meridian.

Elections

Jim Click, Jr., president and owner of Jim Click Automotive Group is the honorary chair of the Carondelet Foundation’s multimillion dollar fundraising campaign for the Carondelet Neurological Institute. The Carondelet Neurological Institute, a $27 million project was launched, in large part, through a significant monetary investment by Carondelet Health Network.
