New airport facility caters to jet set

Blame the Big Three automakers for bumping corporate jets down a few notches, but that doesn’t mean the high-class world of private air travel is delayed.

Million Air, has just opened its newest branch of private and corporate aircraft service in Tucson. The company has more than 30 locations in the United States, Canada and France.

Classical music, leather couches and complementary food and beverages associated with the executive lounge of any airport are on full display here, along with something that may not be immediately associated with air travel: office space.

The Tucson facility features 20,000 square feet of Class A office space, and despite opening only weeks ago, there are already takers.

“In this current climate, that’s a good thing because it’s not cheap,” said Jim Sparks, director of business development for Million Air Tucson.

An aerospace company and a group of government contractors have already signed on for space at the facility, which boasts not only a conference room but an executive class movie theater.

Having business amenities practically on the tarmac is a boon to companies who want a Tucson presence without having to travel too far from their airplanes.

Million Air’s hanger itself can house planes as small as a Cessna 172 and as large as a Global Express, capable of traveling 7,000 miles.

Construction started in July 2007 for the facility, located at 1840 E. Valencia Road. The Tucson branch hopes to service 15 flights a day.
