" Steve Emerine was one of my UofA journalism professors in the late 1960s. He had a great sense of humor -- and an even greater sense of professionalism and dedication to quality journalism. I respected him so much and was delighted to read his columns in Inside Tucson Business when I moved back home to Arizona. My sympathies go to his family and his friends for this loss. It was far too soon for us to lose him. "

" Steve was one of the smartest, most thoughtful people I ever knew. He and I grew up together in Boise's Northend, played sports together, and went to high school and college together. Steve was a man of enormous intellectual vigor and curiorsity. He was indeed a man for all seasons. He will be missed. "

" Steve, Ben Bradshaw & myself grew up together in Boise, ID., attended local schools together, graduating together in '52 from Boise Hi. Although we went our separate ways after graduating, we continue to be close friends, seeing each other at our class reunions. Our friendships continued, separated only by the miles we lived apart. Our last reunion #55 was Sept 2007. We had dinner together and reminiscented old times. Steve was a great friend, loyal & sincere. We will miss him. Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family. May God bless & comfort them. Very sincerely, j Jim - Meridian, Idaho "

" Steve's passing is a huge loss for Tucson. Nobody did a better job of keeping tabs on our public officials and institutions. His columns were are a great source of information and perspective. He was the conscience of the community. God, give him rest....and we pray for his family. "

" I will truely miss his columns. He was one of the few columnists in this town who cut through the BS and called out the truth. I hope ITB finds a fitting replacement. God's speed Mr. Emerine. "

" Our prayers are with you ! Steve was one of the greatest guys! He was honest and thoughtful. Always standing up for what was right. It is a loss to the state and county. He always treasured his family. He was a great American and a true honest friend.
This was a terrible loss to all who knew him. "

" Steve was one of the good guys whose columns were right on target 95% of the time. We spent more time together in the last year in my role with the Sports & Tourism Authority, where he not only supported our efforts but wasn't shy to criticize political decisions of the past so they woudn't repeat in the present. His untimely death is a big loss for the community and for me. "

" Steve was a good guy, a straight-shooter and a superb editor and writer. I worked with him during my time at KUAT, and he was always a professional. His love and support of jazz was also well known to those in the music community.

His was a friendly face with an easy smile at events all over town.

He'll be missed. "
