Last week saw first day in nearly two months that gasoline prices didn’t increase, according to AAA Arizona. Nevertheless, the weekly survey found that Tucson pump prices increased about 4½ cents a gallon over the last week to an average of $2.501 per gallon, which is the lowest average price in the state.
The statewide average last week was $2.669 per gallon, up almost 3 cents per gallon in a week. The national average was $2.676 per gallon, down just three-tenths of a cent from the previous week.
Linda Gorman, public affairs director for AAA Arizona, said supply and demand pressures can be expected to hold down gas prices for a few days until they go up again heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Separately, AAA Arizona forecast that out-of-state auto travel for the Fourth of July weekend would drop about 1 percent this year but that air travel would be up about 8 percent. All totaled about 718,000 Arizona were planning holiday weekend trips, 585,000 by car, 74,000 by air and the rest by other modes.
