So. Arizona stores not among Anchor Blue closings

Published on Friday, June 26, 2009

Clothing retailer Anchor Blue, which has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since May 27, is closing 46 of its 177 stores it calls underperforming. None of the company’s three Southern Arizona stores are included in the closure but three stores — in Phoenix, Tempe and Bullhead — out of 17 it operates statewide are among those that have launched liquidation sales.

Founded in 1972 as Miller’s Outpost, the retailer changed its name to Anchor Blue in the late 1990s. Headquartered in Ontario, Calif., the company sells casual apparel for teens and young adults and has operates in 12 states.

In Tucson, Anchor Blue has stores in Park Place Mall and Tucson Mall and it has a location in the Mall of Sierra Vista.
