Hardly anyone cares about city election
While Tucson city leaders are giving business leaders fits these days, 9 out of 10 voters don’t care. According to the cover article in the June 25 issue of the Tucson Weekly, Clyde Willis, executive director of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, is quoted as saying “It appears most Tucsonans are just too busy working, raising their families or getting drunk to learn about who’s running for the city council.”
So business leaders, you’ve got your work cut out for you if you want to provoke change at City Hall.
Another example of how Tucson doesn’t get it
Manny Ramirez made his return to playing pro baseball last week to sellout crowds with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ AAA club, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
According to published reports the Isotopes average attendance of more than 7,700 swelled to over 15,000 to see Ramirez. We called over to Albuquerque to confirm that 7,700 figure and when we commented that was about double what the Tucson Sidewinders averaged at Tucson Electric Park before the team was sold in 2007, the voice on the other end volunteered Isotopes Stadium was built in a central location on the Univeristy of New Mexico campus.
Oh, so that’s it. Why couldn’t Tucson think of something like that?
