AGM Container Controls, 3526 E. Fort Lowell Road, was selected the national winner for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s 2009 America’s Small Business of the Year award.
The award was given in recognition of the company’s dedication to excellence in several categories.
AGM had previously been selected as the winner of the Western Region, an area which encompasses the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah, on March 25th. Winning the regional gave AGM the opportunity to be considered for the national award.
AGM’s significant sales growth, overall financial success, employee loyalty, as well as being an advocate for both the small business community and social service agencies, all likely played a strong role in AGM receiving the award. For example, AGM has grown 15 percent in the last eight years and 34 percent in 2007 alone. The company offers employees an Employee Stock Ownership Plan and have not had a layoff in 18 years. AGM experienced a 91 percent employee retention rate in 2007 and lost just one salaried employee out of 29 in the last three years.
