CAP pipeline hits caliche on way to Green Valley

Construction of a pipeline that would deliver water from the Central Arizona Project to the Sahuarita and Green Valley is being delayed by 65 feet of rock-hard caliche. As a result Community Water Company of Green Valley is now looking for another location for the recharge facility that would be served by the pipeline, according company president Arturo Gabaldon.
The original site, owned by Rosemont Copper, would have also required costly long-term maintenace once Community Water acquired it in 15 years, Gabaldon said.
Rosemont, which is proposing to open a copper in the Santa Rita Mountains was to pay for the construction of the 36-inch pipeline. Gabaldon said he expects it to take another two to three months to run tests to find another site.
