Local student wins softball player of the year

New Hires

A Rich Experience has added several new practitioners to its staff including Amanda R. Smicklas, a 2002 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Kathleen Medina, a professional intuitive for more than 12 years, Patrick Moore who will be teaching continuing education classes for licensed massage therapists, and Mandy Muren a licensed massage therapist with more than six years of experience.

Sunstone Cancer Support Centers hired Anne Clark as fund development coordinator. Prior to joining the organization, Clark worked for the Grand County, Colorado-based domestic violence organization ADVOCATES, where she served as executive director.

Three new attorneys joined the Tucson office of Snell & Wilmer: Robert Garcia, Theresa Kananen and Douglas Ota. Garcia’s practice is concentrated in commercial litigation. Kananen’s practice is concentrated in commercial litigation. Ota’s practice is concentrated in the area of business and finance. 

Eun Joo (Cindi) Oh, M.D., joined the Rancho Vistoso office of Northwest Allied Physicians. Oh is a member of the medical staff at Oro Valley Hospital who specializes in adult medicine and is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine.

Elections

Randy Yenerich, president of Commerce Bank of Arizona, was elected chairman of the Arizona Bankers Association board of directors for the 2009-2010 term. A Southern Arizona Banker has not held the position in more than 13 years. Chuck Luhtala, president of Canyon Community Bank was also elected to serve on the board.

Touch Point Connection elected its board of directors for 2009-2010. The new officers are Howie Adams, president; Suzanne Ellenbogen, vice-president; Stephanie Calderon, secretary; Ellie Patterson, treasurer; Joan Martin is the executive director of TPC.

The Southern Arizona Children’s Advocacy Center elected new officers of the Board of Directors. Those elected include: Percy Byrd, president; Jean Gage, president elect; Barbara Needle, past president; Fran McNeely, vice president for development; Susie Dupnik, vice president for operations; Carla Johnson, secretary and Bronach Branan, treasurer.

Appointments

Heather Aldridge is the new regional director for Jani-King of Tucson.  

First Credit Union’s Board of Directors appointed Jay Curtis CEO and president of the 80-year old nonprofit financial cooperative. Curtis has served the credit union as executive vice president and chief financial officer for the past six years.

Elizabeth Campbell is the new executive director of Reading Seed Children’s Literacy Program, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Campbell has more than eight years of nonprofit experience including serving as vice president of development and marketing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.

Awards, honors, and recognitions

Kevin Moore of Herschman Architects Inc. passed the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED accreditation examination.

Kenzie Fowler of Canyon Del Oro High School has been named the 2008-09 Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year. This is the second year in a row she has received the honor, joining her with the likes of LeBron James, Greg Oden, Candace Parker, Marion Jones and Cynthia Barboza as the only athletes to win Gatorade National Player of the Year honors more than once. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Fowler as the nation’s best high school softball player.

Derek Rowen, a clinical pharmacist at El Rio Community Health Center’s El Pueblo Clinic, was recognized by the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance (AzPA) as the 2009 Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year. The award recognizes individual excellence and outstanding service to the profession of pharmacy and is sponsored by Pharmacist Mutual Companies. During his time with El Rio, he has worked hard to establish clinical pharmacy services at a satellite location that has never had pharmacy services in the past.

Ruth W. Brinkley, Carondelet Health Network’s president and CEO, has been nominated for Modern Healthcare’s Top 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare Award. Each year, the trade magazine publishes its choices for the Top 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare from among our nation’s most influential business, political, economic and healthcare leaders.
