This Week’s Good News: On for Match Play

Published on Saturday, November 07, 2009

In a region where we can’t take these things for granted, it was a relief to see the World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship on the PGA’s official 2010 schedule released last week. It will take place Feb. 17-21 returning for the second year at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain Golf Club in Marana.

Two changes next year: The championship will be held a week earlier than in the past (not the same week as the La Fiesta de los Vaqueros-Tucson Rodeo); and weekend TV coverage is moving to CBS, instead of NBC which will be tied up covering the Winter Olympics at that time.

More importantly, the 2010 championship is the final year of the original four-year commitment to play in Marana. Let’s hope we can report good news again a year from now.
