Squeaker victories: Uhlich for Tucson City Council and Amphi budget override

Final ballot tabulations released Friday (Nov. 6) night gave incumbent Democrat Karin Uhlich a narrow margin of victory of just 0.3 points - 195 votes - over Republican Ben Buehler-Garcia to return for a second term on the Tucson City Council but another Democratic incumbent, Nina Trasoff lost her bid to return, losing to Republican Steve Kozachik.

The only other council race showed hefty margins all through the tabulations with Richard Fimbres beating Shaun McClusky for the seat being vacated by Steve Leal.

Kozachik will be the only Republican of the six city council members when he is sworn in next month. Bob Walkup, who is half-way through his current four-year term is the only other Republican.

In other close balloting, the final results gave Amphitheater Public Schools a renewal of the district's maintenance and operations budget by just 26 votes, a margin of just. 0.2 points.

Otherwise, there were no surprises coming from the latest results.

The City of Tucson will not be required to meet minimum police staffing levels or fire emergency response times nor will it be allowed to set its own budget limits as a result of the failures of both Proposition 200 and Proposition 400.

Tucson Unified School District didn't win voter approval to exceed limitations of its operations and capital budgets.

Despite winning the close approval of the operations budget override in Amphitheater, voters in that school district  rejected a capital budget override.

In other split decisions, voters in both the Vail and Sahuarita school districts rejected continuations of operations budget overrides but approved selling bonds for school improvements.

Voters in Tanque Verde Unified School District approved both a renewal of the district's operations budget and selling $14 million in bonds to build facilities to separate high school and middle school.

And the two biggest margins of victory among school districts were in Catalina Foothills where nearly two-thirds of voters approved selling $22.8 million in bonds and in Indian Oasis-Baboquivari in Sells where more than 80 percent of voters approved continuations of both a general operations budget override and one specifically for kindergarten-through-3rd grade.

These are the final vote tallies, as released by Pima County Elections.

" Urban Blight

Plummeting Real estate values

All of you folks who voted for Ms Uhlich deserve the above which will result from another term with her in office. But hey, we are going to install a few solar panels and start some new gay/lesbian committees so it all balances out.

Fools. "
