Who will respond to Iran's development of nuclear weapons?

MY OPINION: We were warned

Former ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton warned that we must attack Iran before it gets nuclear weapons. He said it is obvious that Iran is not amenable to diplomatic efforts. And why should they be? No one has given them any reason to be.

All information and technology leaks seem to confirm that Iran is going ahead with all possible speed to arm itself with nuclear weapons of every variety. It is a nuclear threat not only to Israel, not only to its Arab neighbors, but to Europe as well.

Iran has already demonstrated possession of rockets capable of delivering nuclear warheads to southern Europe. It has not yet miniaturized the warhead sufficiently for its rockets to carry them. In fact, just last week they were audaciously demonstrating their capability in two days of “war games.”

As of last May, the International Atomic Energy Agency announced that Iran had the capability of enriching uranium to 4 percent purity required for civilian use. It was working feverishly to increase its purity to 84 percent, weapons grade. Once Iran is nuclear-equipped, it will be in a position to dictate terms to the entire region.

All efforts to deal with them have failed. They are singularly moving to become a nuclear power. Their intermediate goal is to threaten all of Europe and the Middle East. Their ultimate goal is to threaten North America and the entire world – no less.

But who will respond to Bolton’s warning? Surely not Barack Obama. Obama visited that region, extending an olive branch to the Iranians. He returned with an olive branch shoved up his nose (metaphorically speaking, of course).

All these facts considered, it looks as though we will have to deal with a nuclear, aggressive Iran. With any luck at all, the crisis will hit after Obama leaves office and a real president is seated. There is a good chance we will have to fight a nuclear war then because no one in power today has the gonads to do what is necessary.

If you are looking to our commander-in-chief to save the day, consider his efforts to weaken the United States. Imagine this scenario: You and your wife have just returned from a trip abroad. You’re relaxing after dinner when four men appear at your door and demand admittance. They have papers they say that authorize entry. You let them in. They question you for a few minutes, then arrest you both. You are taken to a waiting plane and whisked to The Hague.

There, officials speaking in a language you do not understand try to give you some cursory idea of what is going on. You are jailed for an indeterminate time awaiting trial for what charges you do not know.

Later, it turns out that while traveling in Morocco, you were overheard disparaging certain tenets of the Muslim religion. Those who were offended have filed charges against you.

After about six months, during which you are held incommunicado, you are brought up for trial. The trial is held in secret. While it is conducted in French, they have thoughtfully provided an interpreter who translates into British English for you.

You are not permitted an attorney but a “councilor” is appointed to explain the proceedings. She tells you what you have been charged with is blasphemy, explaining that you are presumed guilty, that you have the burden of proving your innocence although there is no process for summoning witnesses in your favor. The penalty could be as much as death but that is rarely imposed on foreigners. Juries are unheard of. Your case will be decided by a panel of three judges, one of whom speaks a little English.

You have no right of appeal but if you are found not guilty, you may be tried again, possibly twice more, taking two of the three verdicts. Your protestation that what you did is no crime is taken as a confession. You are tried and found guilty. You will be sentenced eventually.

Couldn’t happen? It is being arranged for us right now by the Obama administration. They want us to join the International Criminal Court in The Hague. They operate pretty much on law they make up as they go along. They are unrestrained by any constitution. At present they are enforcing “international law.” But as surely as God made little green toads, they will expand their jurisdiction to domestic crimes.

As for the ICC, if we join then kiss your freedom good bye. It will not be right away of course but little by little. "

" You are so ignorant its insane. The Hague would never be able to do that because in the criminal court constitution it says that the US would be able to retrieve anyone who was being held. In brief terms the US can pardon any of its citizens if they were being held in international court. Also Iran is not looking to make nuclear weapons they are truly seeking to create nuclear energy. Repeatedly they have tried to say this and they do allow inspectors in and have been trying to work in conjunction with the UN and the US and the IAEA. "

" Hey dude,
Where were you in February 2009? The Iranians launched a satelite for communication into orbit, did you get that ORBIT. It is still up there. What does that mean? If they get a nuclear warhead and configure it to fit on top of this Intercontinental Launch Vehicle, they can lob a nuke anywhere they want, Washington DC, New York City, Miami, stinking anywhere... As far as invading, I am against it, as far as a surgical strike, should be done with no fanfare and no acknowledgement, just done... thank you "
